American record: Two million new virus cases in two weeks

Since the coronavirus broke out in the United States, the country has added more than a million cases in the past two consecutive weeks. Covid deaths, which are weeks behind reported cases, are also at levels not seen since spring.

According to some epidemiologists, the number of deaths in the coming weeks may exceed the spring peak, despite better treatment.

Last week, the United States added an average of 173,000 new cases a day. If this growth pattern is maintained, the number of cases reported for the full month of November is likely to reach 4.5 million. That would be more than double the number of the previous month.

With more days left in the month, about 3.3 million people in the United States had already tested positive for the coronavirus on November 23rd.

North Dakota continues to have the worst epidemic in the country in terms of population, which it has maintained since early September. Since the outbreak, almost every 10 North Dakota has tested positive for the virus, the vast majority in the last two months.

But the incidents there, as well as in other parts of the Upper Midwest and West Mountains, which posed the initial risk of falling, leveled off somewhat, while incidents increased on both shores as well as south and southwest.

In the U.S., nearly 2,000 counties now record the worst month in November – nearly five times as many as in October. The maps below show in which months the counties saw the highest number of cases.

There were more new cases in the New York subway area in April than in any other month. In many counties along the Gulf Coast, as well as in Arizona and California, there were more cases in July or August than in November.

But with more than 40 states steadily increasing the number of cases, a record is likely to be broken even from these counties this month.
