Auburn announces a change in football coaches

AUBURN, Ala. Auburn is the athletic director Allen Greene announced the change of leadership of Auburn football as on Sunday Gus Malzahn no longer controls the program. Defensive coordinator Kevin Steele will serve as a temporary head coach.

In eight years, Malzahn set a 68-35 record, including the Southeast Conference’s 39-27 index. He led the program to appear in the first season of the SEC Championship and the BCS National Championship, and in 2017 to the title of SEC West.

Greene suggested a change in the leadership of the football team to Auburn president Jay Gogue after a “thorough analysis” of the program. Gogue accepted Greene’s recommendation.

Malzahn will be paid the remainder of the contract. The nationwide search starts immediately.
