Biden had a hard time balancing his markings. There is pressure from the left not only to appoint a diverse cabinet, but also to appoint individuals who reflect the progressive base that is the engine of the Democratic Party.
At the same time, he must also nominate people who can be confirmed by a senate that could fall into GOP hands if Republicans can win one of two Georgian running races to be decided in January.

Although Biden’s election is not necessarily at the top of the progressive wish list, so far the left has largely supported the election of an elected president.
Still, some progressive ones for the Biden team are that there are potential candidates in the mix that are considered unacceptable.

And on Tuesday, the Democrats for Justice, Social Security Works, and Data for Progress groups launched a public petition to campaign against Bruce Reed not to consider running the Office of Administration and Budget.
It was claimed that Reed, the former chief of staff of Biden, who was the executive director of the Simpson-Bowles Committee, whose task in 2010 was to recommend deficit reduction proposals, was a “career-deficient falcon”.
“Reed’s rejection will be a big test for the soul of the Biden presidency,” the petition states. “We need our government to spend money now – ensuring the distribution of vaccines, keeping people at home, preventing small businesses from closing permanently, and keeping Americans home until the vaccine arrives!”
Tlaib also called on Antony Blinken, Secretary of State Biden’s election, to reverse Trump’s government action on an international movement to boycott, alienate or sanction Israel, also known as the BDS.
“I hope Mr Blinken and President-elect Biden’s government change the direction of Trump’s State Department and do not target or suppress support for Palestinian human rights.” Tlaib has tweeted.

Biden wants to put both diversity and policy expertise at the forefront of his cabinet and staff selection. Cabinet candidates presented this week include Alejandro Mayorkas, the first Latin and immigrant to head the Department of Homeland Security (DHS); Avril Haines as the first female director of National Intelligence; and Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who is a black, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Progressors have called for Warren to become Treasury Secretary, but Yellen is more likely to have an easier time getting Senate ratification.
In 2014, the Senate confirmed in a bipartisan 56-26 vote that Yellent would serve as President of the Federal Reserve, including with the support of a handful of GOP senators who will be in Congress next year.
Democrats can win the Senate even if they win the two Georgian elections in Georgia, a traditionally GOP-based state that Biden won in the presidential election. But either way, Biden will have to face a narrowly divided Senate, regardless of which party eventually gets the majority.
With this in mind, Biden urges consensus candidates as much as possible who are not overly polarized.
“I hope that for the U.S. Senate, I hope that these nominated candidates will be heard immediately and that we can work in good faith in the corridor to move forward for the country. Let’s start this work for healing and reunion, ”Biden said Tuesday.
