Crew successfully rescues about 30 anglers from segregated ice sheet on Superior Lake


12:32 AM UPDATE – About 30 ice anglers have been released after being stranded on a separate layer of ice on Superior Lake on Tuesday.

Shortly after 11 a.m., staff responded to the area near the Lakewalk and Beacon Point condominiums on Water Street in Duluth.

Duluth Fire Department spokesmen said rescue personnel were in the water and about six anglers were brought ashore at one time.

All anglers returned ashore around 12:30 p.m.

It did not appear that any angler had been injured.

The staff is working on how to recover ice fishing equipment stuck to the ice sheet.

DULUTH, MN – Fire and rescue personnel are responding to Lake above Lake Lake, where an estimated 30 ice anglers were stranded on a separate ice sheet on Tuesday morning.
