Police killed a man who opened fire in front of a New York cathedral after a Sunday concert.
The man, who could not be identified immediately, was pronounced dead at the hospital after a gun was fired in front of the divine St. John’s Cathedral in Manhattan’s Morningside Heights section, a senior New York official said.
Gale Brewer, president of the Manhattan district, said the shooting came after the church’s Christmas concert. He said his press secretary and chief of staff, who were in the church, were safe.
The senior official said no other reports of injury had been received.
A police spokesman said officers may have witnessed the man’s shooting shortly before 4 p.m.
Further details on the shooting were not immediately available.
