San Jose police arrested a suspect by killing two people and injuring three others in a California Baptist church that housed the homeless with mass delay on Sunday night.

The San Jose Police Department on Monday issued a statement announcing that a suspect is in custody. The identity of the suspect and the motive for the delay were not immediately clear, but the suspect is an adult male.

The victims were an adult man who died at the scene and an adult woman who died at a local hospital.

The San Jose Police Department tweeted after 8:40 p.m., Sunday, after local time that officers responded to a series of delays at Grace Baptist Church in Block 400 of E San Fernando Street.

They arrived to find “more stab victims” at the scene, some of whom suffered life-threatening injuries.

The mayor of San Jose, Sam Liccardo, confirmed last night that two victims had died.

The other three stabbing victims were all adult men who were taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“Our hearts go to the families of the two communities who gave in to the wounds stabbed in the attack on downtown Grace Baptist Church tonight,” he tweeted on Sunday at 8:55 p.m. – The SJPD arrested the suspect. Others are severely wounded and we hold them in our prayers.

Earlier today, Mayor Liccardo tweeted, “Our hearts were torn for the victims and their loved ones during last night’s horrific knife stab at the Grace Baptist Church in downtown – we lost two members of the community. We pray for the healing of others severely wounded during the attack. We will provide more as soon as the information becomes available. ”

A video of the scene, recorded by CBS San Francisco, shows a large police presence and a number of emergency vehicles in front of the house of prayer.

It is currently unclear what led to the punctures. According to police, no services were held in the church at the time.

According to the SJPD, a number of “homeless” people were brought to the church in the hours before to “free them from the cold”.

Police did not say if any of the homeless were involved.

The church is located near the campus of San Jose State University.

More information will be released as it becomes available, the department said.
