Philadelphia policeman shoots while stopping traffic on West Somerville Avenue in the city’s Logan section


PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A Philadelphia police officer was shot dead while making a traffic stop on Wednesday night in the city’s Logan district.

It happened at the 1500 block of West Somerville Avenue, just before 7 p.m.

Sources tell Action News that the officer was shot dead during a traffic stop.

There were three men and one woman in the vehicle when at least one man opened fire on the officer.

Action News learned that the officer had been shot in the leg and was currently hospitalized in a stable condition.

The Sgt. According to a 24-year-old man who was inside the vehicle, he was fatally wounded in a gun exchange with five police officers. Eric Gripp at the Philadelphia Police Department.

There was no immediate news of what triggered the traffic.
