MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 21-year-old man was arrested after a policeman and two other men were shot dead in Albert Lea on Sunday morning.
Officers first arrived at 800th Avenue Avenue around 2:18 p.m., after being notified that they had heard fireworks or shots.
When they arrived, a suspect shot an ALPD officer several times; two shots hit the squad and one hit the officer’s chest. The officer was able to move to a safe zone, assess for possible injuries, and drive to the ER. The officer has since been cared for and released.
For most of the morning, there was a refuge around 800 South Avenue 4 and West Front Street. The shelter was raised around 11 p.m.

Among the other two victims is a 52-year-old man transported to Rochester and a 38-year-old man.
Governor Tim Walz offered his thoughts and prayers to those injured in the shooting.
“I thank law enforcement officers, including both local troops and our state patrol soldiers and BCA agents, who worked to keep Albert Lea’s residents safe from further damage,” he said. “This situation could have been significantly worse, but the suspect is now in custody.”
It’s an evolving story, look back for more.
