BUENA PARK, California – A police officer is recovering after a driver retreated in them Friday night during a stop on Highway 91 in Buena Park.
According to the Buena Park Police Department, an officer pulled the driver through the west lanes of Highway 91 near Brookhurst Road. During the traffic stop, the driver turned his vehicle around, hitting the officer. Buena Park PD said shots were fired after the officer hit him, but police did not determine who opened fire.
The suspect’s vehicle drove off the scene, police said. The officer was taken to hospital but is expected to survive, police say.
The California Highway Patrol was asked to stop lanes I-5 near the Highway 91 junction due to shooting by officers.
As of Friday night, the suspect is not yet in custody, police say.
