Police shot in the face of a suspect in Charleston, Washington, according to reports


A West Virginia police officer was shot in the face on Tuesday and a suspect was detained, local media reported.

A Charleston police officer was shot sometime in the afternoon, WCHS-TV reported. Investigators say the suspect was also hit, WSAZ-TV reported.

It was not clear what led to the shooting. The officer underwent surgery, according to a statement from Chief of Police Tyke Hunt and Mayor of Charleston Amy Shuler Goodwin.

Charleston Police Department did not respond to Fox News messages and calls.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department involved in the investigation declined to comment.

In a tweet in Kanawha County, he said he was praying for the police.
