Search in 2020 summarizes Google Trends for turbulent times

2020 is a year we’ve never experienced, and as it comes to an end, Google’s Year in Search video was introduced, allowing a look back at an uncertain roller coaster of the year.

In this year’s summary video, Google is changing the style a bit. We see the same transparent search bar and phrase as in recent years, but this time accompanied by a poem by Kofi Dadzie, a poet and musician living in Boston. The video also features an original song by Peter Cottontale, Cynthia Erivo and Chance the Rapper, “Together” before its official release on Friday.

Year in Search 2020 video and poem showcases the world’s most popular search trends, with the “why” question as the centerpiece of this year. The main trends include the biggest events of the year, apparently driven by the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic. Other big trends included the raging fire in California and Australia, the Black Lives Matter movement, and notable deaths such as Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Google didn’t just detail the biggest trends of the year on Google Trends in a heartwarming video. It will be very interesting to see how the 2020 elections, COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement affected the top trends of the whole year.
