The IRS says some of these taxpayers will not receive a second economic impact payment, instead they will need to claim a reclaim credit on their 2020 tax return.

What does ‘Payment status unavailable’ mean? And what is a refund?

The Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov shows the payment status of the first and second stimuli.

The IRS announced Tuesday that eligible Americans with a status labeled “Payment Status 2 – Unavailable” will not receive their second incentive check by direct deposit or mail.

What happens if unknown banking information appears in Get My Payment?

Many said they looked at the IRS website and found that their payments were sent to an account that was not recognized.

The IRS issued its most recent statement Tuesday night, saying that because of the speed of the law requiring the IRS to issue a second round of economic impact payments, some payments may have been sent to an account that can be closed or is not or no longer active. or unknown.

For those who used the H&R block to pay their 2019 tax, unknown bank information may be associated with a refund transfer.

“Don’t worry – these payments were sent to the method you chose to transfer your refund: direct deposit, check or Emerald card. The money should be there by the end of the day,” H&R Block said in a statement.

Some TurboTax customers who paid tax fees with their refunds also reported delays and funds sent to unknown accounts. TurboTax said the IRS is “the only party able to determine eligibility and distribute incentive payments,” and that the law requires a financial institution to refund a payment to the IRS if an account is no longer active.

There is currently no exact measure of how many taxpayers are involved. The IRS did not comment early on Tuesday on the extent or cause of the problem.

Many who have experienced problems receiving their first incentive checks have also hired tax firms that used specific bank accounts to process their tax refunds, tax expert Eab Nassif said in April.

The bank numbers these taxpayers see on the IRS website belonged to tax preparation companies and were used to collect taxpayers ’fees, Nassif said. Thus, customers did not have to pay tax inventory out of pocket.

According to the IRS website, the agency will only use data already in its system until December 22, 2020.
