IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – State detainees say another inmate at the Anamosa State Penitentiary has died after the state followed the largest outbreak of COVID-19 among inmates.
Frederick William Lewis, 68, passed away on Monday, November 23 at around 2:42 p.m., according to the Iowa Department of Corrections. Officials say his death was likely due to complications from COVID-19 and other pre-existing conditions. He was treated for several days before his death at the Hospitals and Clinics of the University of Iowa.
Lewis was convicted of first-degree sexual harassment and other crimes in Dubuque County and has served a life sentence since July 1997.
