SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. “The two infantry who were out of duty in Madison and his wife were hit in a fatal accident at Sun Prairie on Monday afternoon.
Sun Prairie Police Department reported that the officer on duty and his wife were walking down the bike path from the East Main Street highway when they were hit by a vehicle involved in the accident.
The Danish County Medical Examination Board identified the woman who died in the accident as 48-year-old Julie Nelson. He was declared dead on the spot.
According to the press release, the forensic investigation revealed that Nelson had died from his injuries sustained in the accident.
Police said the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident, James Blackstone, 32, was arrested for jumping bail.
The two cars crashed around 3:30 p.m. on Main Road 19 at White Trail Drive.
A spokesman for the Madison Police Department said the out-of-service officer was also involved in Tuesday’s accident, but was unable to comment on the state of the post at the time.
The accident closed all lanes of Main Road 19 for several hours on Tuesday night.
Police say the accident is still under investigation.
