The lawsuits for the campaign focused on the fewer than 9,000 missing and mail items that the county election committee decided to count despite possible defects in the outer envelopes. The campaign argued that these errors, which include handwriting the name, date, or street address on the outside of the envelope for returning the urns, preclude it. But the Supreme Court disagreed.
The court also noted that the campaign did not argue that there was any evidence of fraud for these votes.
Outside the courtroom, Trump’s attorneys and deputies quickly made allegations at the state and national levels. One lawyer, Sidney Powell, claimed without evidence that an international communist conspiracy was opposed to election software against Trump. Powell was effectively fired from the Trump campaign legal team after he made these allegations, which were immediately accepted by both sides of the political corridor with severe criticism.
But when he is sworn in before a judge, the same people as Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, are unwilling to argue that they committed electoral fraud.
“Here we conclude that although the omission of the handwritten name, address or date on the back of the outer envelope in the voter declaration, although a technical violation of the Electoral Code, does not justify the wholesale loss of thousands of Pennsylvania voters,” Justice Christine Donohue wrote. court judgment.
If the Trump campaign had won the case and invalidated the votes, that would be nowhere near enough to theoretically defeat Biden’s Pennsylvania leadership with more than 81,000 votes – even if all the ballots in question went to Biden.
Trump may have found an accident in the federal case, whose loss was partly appealed by his campaign as his last legal shot overturned Biden’s Pennsylvania election victory.
