President Donald Trump has threatened to veto the defense budget bill – unless the protection of social media that allows people to post vile things on their platforms is lifted. Late Tuesday night on Twitter, Trump violated section 230 of the Communications Fairness Act 1996, which prevents social platforms from being sued by anyone who is upset about something someone has posted. Last week, Trump called for an “immediate abolition” of the law hours after #DiaperDon began trending on Twitter. In his belt latest tweet, Trump called Section 230 “a serious threat to our national security and electoral integrity,” adding that if this does not end as part of the National Defense Licensing Act, he will “be forced to make a clear VETO on the bill”.
